Our History
Roy and Fran Sauder, the original owners of Country Table, had long enjoyed preparing
and serving good food, both to family and friends, as well as frequently catering
social events. Country Table Restaurant evolved out of this love for good food,
and first opened its doors on September 1, 1983. Along with their sons, Roy and
Fran continued to operate Country Table for the next seven years. As the business
continued to prosper, the Sauders added a full-service bakery, banquet facilities
to service up to 400 persons, and a glass enclosed sunroom.
In 1990 the Sauders sold their restaurant to John and Reba Buckwalter and for the next 10 years, The Buckwalter family continued to serve many old family recipes, which had been served at "Grandma Alta Buckwalter's" table. The banquet rooms were replaced with a gift shoppe, and an enlarged bakeshop and deli, as well as a spacious garden-like area to sit and relax while waiting for your table.
In September 2000, Tom and Roe Daly (and their 4 children) purchased the Restaurant.
Roe was an employee of Country Table and was employed by John and Reba. Both from rather large families, Tom and Roe are no strangers to large gatherings with lots of food. One of 11 children, Tom was raised to believe that every meal was a big event. He grew up enjoying his mother's homemade ham and cabbage, beef stews, pot roasts and pork and sauerkraut. Roe was raised among six siblings. Of Italian descent, mealtime at her home meant being prepared for extended family or friends to drop by and of course stay for supper. Adding authentic Italian recipes from her heritage has enhanced our special's menu. What we love most about Country Table is the sense of family among friends enjoying time together at mealtime around the table.
Be sure to visit our full-service bake shoppe. Enjoy specialties such as sticky buns, shoofly pie, apple dumplings, or dinner rolls, all baked daily on the premises. Our cake decorators have earned a reputation for their beautifully decorated wedding cakes, birthday, and special occasion cakes. We welcome your special orders! Our decorators enjoy the challenge of satisfying both the unique and simple requests for cake design.
Our deli offers Country Table customers one-stop shopping opportunities where you can
pick up favorites such as potato salad, macaroni salad, cranberry relish, homemade soups,
salads, turkey, roast beef, baked chicken, baked beans, sandwiches, fruit trays, baked
oatmeal, ready to serve meals in microwaveable containers and quart or half-gallon
containers of Premium Ice Cream.
In February of 2007 Reba Buckwalter, after 17 years of serving the community decided to retire completely and close the Gift Shoppe. We welcomed Home Towne Community Bank as our new neighbor.
We hope you enjoyed reading our history. Roe and I will continue to honor the recipes and food traditions of the past, serving from scratch home-style cooking for a reasonable price and friendly service, while offering some new dishes to keep up with present day dietary needs.
